If you are venturing out into Elf on a Shelf this year then this article is for you. A friend asked me to write it to provide easy ideas for her to do for her two boys.

Elf Arrival Ideas

I think this is my favourite arrival idea, my kids love balloons too so getting up on 1st December and finding their elves trapped in balloons will be like Christmas has come early. I will try to get them to pop it by jumping or squishing it to add to the fun.

I also like this idea from Mum's Grapevine. Take an old cardboard box add some real looking North Pole stamps and even some fake snow for your Elfs magical arrival.

Elf Wrapped Lunch

I did this one for my son last year, although I was slightly miffed when he came out of school rather angry at the Elf for making his food hard to get into on his lunch break! Just use some wrapping paper or tissue paper (try to avoid any that they have already seen in the house) and wrap items individually. Older children might find this more amusing than younger ones who (like mine) merely see it as an inconvenience.

Elf Snow Angels

Most of us with younger kids have sprinkles in the house I'd guess. If not pop to Poundland or your supermarket and pick up a cheap pack. Lay them on a baking tray and make the shape of you Elf snow angel by moving his arms and legs through the sprinkles. Once done these can simply be tipped into the bin or back into the pot if you prefer. Just make sure you get to them before the little ones do or this one could get messy! I've also seen this done with flour but your Elf will likely need a clean afterwards and there is little chance of your kids staying powder free!

Elf Jail

I'm definitely using this one this year. My kids love a bit of mischief and surprise so to wake up and be stuck in Elf jail will I'm sure be highly amusing for them. Just get some ribbon or paper or even some sellotape or washi tape if you happen to have that lying around. Just make sure they can see it otherwise you might be rushing to untie them from Sellotape jail instead. (Not so amusing for them!)

Elf Ball Pit

I tried this last year, the kids didn't find it particularly amusing however once we started a "snowball fight" with the pom poms it suddenly became hilarious to them (not to Mummy who had to pick them all up until the next June)

Elf Zip Line

This one got a great reaction from the kids last year. IT was fairly simple to setup with some string and a trouser grip coathanger (I didn't have enough time to try to get the candy cane to stick to the elf.) I stretched it the whole way across the lounge and the kids had a great time playing with the Elves and their zipline.

Find the hidden treat game

This one went down well although I had to make sure there was the same amount of cups for each child to check as I'm sure any parent with more than one child understands. Use leftover plastic/paper cups from parties or if you have non see through cups just use those. My treats included sweeties as I hadn't really thought through what the treats would be so just raided the cupboard. With a little forward thinking you could tailor this nicely to include a cute treat for your kids and get the excitement building for Christmas.
